NEW AARCH

Specially Designed Workstations for
NEW AARCH in Aarhus

Denmark’s first brand-new architecture school has just been built in the heart of Aarhus. NEW AARCH, as the school is called, brings the school’s many locations together under one roof in the vibrant Godsbanearealer district of Denmark’s second-largest city. With the opening of the new architecture school, it also aims to become an elite institution for architecture development.

The 13,000-square-meter building combines raw concrete, fantastic lighting and pale woods in an exciting construction that transforms the huge area into smaller workstations, meeting rooms and lounge areas for the new school’s many employees and students.

Specially Designed Desk
The interior design concept was developed by Spant Studio, while HOLMRIS B8 has supplied furniture to the school.

For instance, the new office area has a large, open-plan space fitted with a range of workstations to provide niches that meet the employee’s preferences for smaller offices. As a special element for the new architecture school, HOLMRIS B8 and Spant Studio joined forces to design the height-adjustable New Aarch Desk.

“The idea was to create a desk that elegantly hides wires, electronics, wastepaper basket and more behind its sturdy side gables. We also wanted to make a desk that looks more beautiful the higher you raise it. The wooden base is made of rotary plywood, which is also used elsewhere in the interior design concept. The higher you raise the desk, the more you can see the beautiful woodwork,” explains Troels Thorbjørnson, architect at Spant Studio.

He continues:

“Our collaboration with HOLMRIS B8 on the table has been great. Basically, we brought the idea and they brought the know-how for desk production, height-adjusting electronics, and a good way to implement the ideas.”

Elegant Desk Chair
To divide the large space up into smaller workstations, HOLMRIS B8 also created a series of specially designed tall shelving units to place between the height-adjustable desks. The shelving units are made from 1,100 repurposed pinewood crates from the old architect school, which the HOLMRIS B8 service team cleaned and reassembled in new combinations.

As an ergonomic chair to accompany the New Aarch Desk, HOLMRIS B8 has supplied 600 of our own
Ray@work chair – a refined and sophisticated version of the classic desk chair. Finally, HOLMRIS B8 supplied a number of Ant and Series 7 chairs to the new architecture school.

NEW AARCH opened its doors in summer 2021.
